LHDN error ERR219: foreign supplier on a self-billed document has the wrong TIN
Updated 18 October 2026
Short answer
ERR219 means a self-billed document for a foreign supplier carries a Malaysian-style TIN. A foreign supplier with no Malaysian TIN takes the foreign supplier general TIN EI00000000030, with the supplier's passport or registration number as the ID. Change the supplier TIN and submit again.
What LHDN's message says
What it means
On a self-billed e-invoice the roles swap: you are the buyer, and the party you paid is the supplier. When that supplier is overseas and has no Malaysian TIN, LHDN expects the general TIN EI00000000030 in the supplier TIN field.
Why it happens
LHDN documents close relatives of this rule in its validator reference: ERR213 (general TIN 010 used for a foreign supplier), ERR208 (general TIN 020 used for a foreign supplier) and ERR229 (general TIN 030 used for a party that is not a foreign supplier).
How to fix it
- Open the self-billed document and find the supplier details.
- Set the supplier TIN to EI00000000030.
- Enter the supplier's passport number or foreign registration number as the ID.
- For a passport, enter the number only. From 24 October 2026 LHDN rejects passport numbers longer than 12 characters.
- Submit the corrected document as a new e-invoice.
How envoice handles it
When LHDN rejects a document, envoice shows a Rejection reason box on it. Each line names the field at fault, explains the cause in plain language, gives the fix where envoice knows it, and quotes LHDN's own sentence with a link to LHDN's guidance for that code. The explanation is shown in English or Bahasa Melayu.
On a self-billed invoice for a foreign supplier, envoice fills the general TIN for you.
Click Fix & resubmit to open the invoice form prefilled from the rejected document, correct the field, and submit it as a new e-invoice. The shop owner also gets one email when a document is rejected, so a rejection is not discovered weeks later. See Why was my document rejected?

Frequently asked questions
What does LHDN error ERR219 mean?
ERR219 means a self-billed document for a foreign supplier carries a Malaysian-style TIN. A foreign supplier with no Malaysian TIN takes the foreign supplier general TIN EI00000000030, with the supplier's passport or registration number as the ID. Change the supplier TIN and submit again.
Which general TIN is for a foreign supplier?
EI00000000030. EI00000000010 is the general public buyer and EI00000000020 is for buyers only, so LHDN accepts neither for a foreign supplier.
When do I need a self-billed e-invoice for a foreign supplier?
When you buy goods or services from a foreign supplier. LHDN's e-Invoice Specific Guideline (section 8.3) makes you, the buyer, issue the e-invoice on the supplier's behalf.
